 In
1938 with just 2 cars George Thomas Cox began Streamline.
By the end of the World War II the family run business
had grown to ten vehicles. Surplus vehicles at this
time were being released by the armed services and
George
purchased a twenty seat charabanc from the Royal Air
Force. It was still painted in ‘war grey’ and
the Streamline staff set to work to repaint in the chosen
colour, yellow. The charabanc soon became known as the ‘Yellow
Peril’.
The first new coach was bought in 1946 a 29
seat and used for day trips to Margate, Ramsgate and
Southend.
In 1954
Streamline became a limited company with George Thomas
Cox and his wife Hette Laura Cox being directors and
their son Norman a shareholder. The business continued
to grow
and in 1966 Norman Cox took over Kentish Belle coaches
of Bearsted bringing the fleet to 25 vehicles.
From 1st July 2004 the major part of the coaching
operation currently carried out by Streamline (Maidstone)
Ltd
was transferred to Streamline (West Malling) Ltd T/A
which
continues to be very much a family run business under
the guidance of Jayne Corcoran as managing
director.
